What is the Role of Architectural Engineers

When people hear the term architectural engineer it may cause some confusion if they are not familiar with this field of work. This is because this term is used to describe not only some architects, but also other professional who are instrumental in building and major structural design. Here is some information to give some insight as to which professional can be given this professional title and what it is that they do.

What They Design

An architectural engineer is crucial in the planning and development of bridges, buildings, and various support structures. The engineers who are focused on the development of structures need are relied upon to ensure that the structures they design are sturdy and sound. This means that they need to be versed in the materials and the proper calculations and methods used to ensure that they can withstand not just the test of time, but also forces of nature. The engineers who focus on the development of a building are responsible for all aspects of the building’s design and function. This means that they have to design buildings which are not just practical for the purpose they are to be used for, but they are also responsible for the design aesthetics of the building as well.

There are other engineers who fall under this title who only focus on the electrical and plumbing aspects of a building. The engineers who work on the electrical elements of a building are responsible for designing far more than just the electrical wiring systems. They are also entrusted with designing the lighting, fire safety and telecommunications systems. Those who work on the plumbing of a building also have to properly design drainage systems such as gutter for rainwater and in some cases rainwater collection systems.

There are several mechanical devices used to keep a building in working order. Some of these systems include the heating, air condition, and general ventilation systems. He selecting these devices are designing how they are to be incorporated into the design of a building is something which is overseen by archite4xctual engineers who have a focus on mechanical engineering.

Who They Are

Architects, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical engineers can all have the title architectural engineer. In some areas they can be given this title if they work with teams of these professionals in the designing and development of buildings and structures. In some areas they are have to pass specific certification in order to hold this specific tile.

Whether the title is given to these professional formally or informally they work with a team of other architectural engineers in the process of crearting or redeveloping buildings. This is because each individual professional brings are specific expertise and insight to the table which works in conjunction with the other professional. Together these engineers work to make all of the various design aspects of a building work together. They do this to have their end result be a building which is performs well on both form and function.
